ENT HEAD AND NECK SURGERY FELLOWSHIPS
Head and Neck Fellowship:
The Otolaryngology Head and Neck Fellowship at the Royal Brisbane Hospital is a great experience with lots of operating. Its one of the busiest MDTs in Australia so there is no limit to the cases. A lot of advanced disease so very extensive procedures are common. The Fellowship is in ablative surgery so it is not a reconstruction job - the Plastics and Maxillofacial teams do the recon for major cases. We have recently started up our robotic practice and this may well be part of the Fellowship by 2021. Surgery includes all oral cavity disease and also sinonasal malignancy including craniofacial resections etc.
The Rhinology Fellowship at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital provides lots of operating experience in endoscopic sinus surgery, endoscopic removal of nasal tumours, and septorhinoplasty (mainly open septorhinoplasty). There is also a significant amount of pituitary and skull base work. The Fellow also sees almost all patients postoperatively and therefore can assess their own surgical outcomes. There are approximately 2 research sessions per week and part of the research workload includes assessing patients enrolled in clinical trials.
The Head and Neck Fellowship runs from February to February for 12 months. The successful candidate is appointed 1 year in advance of the post.
The Rhinology Fellowship runs from October to October for 12 months. The successful candidate is appointed 1 year in advance of the post.
The Fellowships currently include a one in five on call. The on call is a general adult on call and it is essential that your ENT training is broad enough to deal with ALL ENT emergencies and not just those in your subspecialty area.
The fellowship is paid and should easily cover ordinary expenses. Brisbane is a wonderful place to spend a year with almost constant sunshine and wonderful outdoor activities in the proximity. It is also a very 'child friendly' city with excellent schools and childcare facilities.
Please send through your CV for our records if you are interested in applying. Please be clear about which Fellowships you are applying for, and which year you are applying for. The choice of applicant is made 12 months in advance through a formal application process i.e. Feb 2019 for Feb 2020. We strongly encourage you to visit the unit in advance but even if unable to do so your application is very welcome.
APPLICATION FOR THE JOBS IS DONE VIA THE SMARTJOBS WEBSITE AND WILL OPEN APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT
The job can be easily located using the search term 'ear nose throat' and may be listed under 'senior registrar'
